Onigie
in Yanagawa City, Fukuoka, in October.

| This is the festival
called "Onigie" in Fukuoka Prefecture, Yanagawa
City. In the festival there are many two tiered wagons. These tiers are wood with people-powered wheels. On the top of the tiers of some wagons, women in beautiful kimono dance and sing songs. On other wagons, men act out dramas. First, they appear in the white demon (han-nya) mask. Next they hide and change into the "lucky gourd" (fuku) mask. Finally, they change into the "drunkard", pulling candy and sweets from their shirts and tossing it to the crowd below them. If you are in the area around the wagons, you may get some sweets! Then you can drink free sake, which is called "furumaizake". ( Oct. 10th., 2004, Fukuoka Prefecture, Yanagawa City.) |

Men play in dramas on the wagon that is called
"Dorotsukudon".
